Admission Criteria

To be considered for NITC's services consumers must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be age 18 or older unless specific authorization is granted from a regulation body.
  2. Have a diagnosed serious mental disorder. "Mental disorder" is a clinically significant behavioral or psychologically syndrome or pattern that occurs in an individual and that is associated with present distress or disability or with a significantly increased risk of suffering, death, pain, disability, or an important loss of freedom, as defined by the American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual or Mental Disorders (DSM-IV).
  3. Be willing to participate in the program.
  4. Be able to benefit from the services provided.
  5. Have the ability to adequately safely provide self-care and is not a serious threat to self or others.
  6. Medical needs or psychiatric needs cannot exceed the level or care NITC can provide, as evidenced by a physician's statement.
  7. Participate in an admission intake interview.
  8. Have a completed medical examination and psychiatric evaluation within the last 12 months and receive other pre-admission information based on the regulatory requirements for the type of service requested.
  9. Confirmation of funding for services.
  10. NITC reserves the right to waive these criteria under certain conditions, which is determined case by case and documented accordingly.
